To have this behaviour with the current version of toolkit itself, I am planning to re-define the ControlTemplate for "Validation.ErrorTemplate" in such a way that during error there will be a red colour highlighting around the propertyItem and when the value is changed there will be orange/yellow colour highlighting...

Any other suggestions?
