New Post: Avalon dock: setting size of panes to just fit contents after redocking or when switching from dock to float

I should clarify the issue.
  1. You are correct that dragging the floating window over the topmost icon will have the LayoutAnchorable fit its content, but not always. For example, if I dock the floating window via the top-central icon, and then float it again, docking it again via the top icon will now have the window at a different size.
  2. I also want the LayoutAnchorable to fit its contents whenits floating form is dragged over the top of the centre icon. The current behaviour (which I believe is the default) splits the existing area into two.
  3. As an alternative, it would be useful to be able to suppress some or all of the centre icon, leaving only the top/bottom/left/right icons.
The reason for wanting the above desired behaviours is that:
  • For the particular application I am building, the docked window should never be larger than its content: just fitting its content is ideal. If it is larger, the end user would have to manually manipulate its size - an unneeded operation for them.
  • My user base is fairly unsophisticated - I expect all but one or two to never have experienced anything like the AvalonDock UI. They would likely just drop the floating window on the centre icon (as its most prominent), and may not even realize that the size can still be manipulated.
By the way, XCEED is fantastic. I really appreciate you doing all this work, supporting it, and making it generally available.
