I have a scenario where the user changes the date frequently, only views what I'm changing in the rest of the form for a second or two. Because the calendar closes after a choice is selected, the user must click the drop down again, then click the calendar. This almost doubles their time to use an application where as the calendar is occupying dead space anyways and nothing is gained by closing the calendar.
